Group Reunites To Combat Merger Talk

The Coldstream Ratepayers Association is back. Acting president Steve Heeren says renewed amalgamation talk has them setting up a public forum for residents of both the district and Lavington. He says he's convinced the merger talk is coming from specific interests. "Mainly from the business community in Vernon, in my opinion, with some major support from the Morning Star and also from some major actors out here in Coldstream," Heeren tells Kiss FM. Heeren suggests there's very little support for the idea in Coldstream. "It's a way of slowly inviting the public in, leading them by the nose into some eventual move for amalgamation itself. Why would anyone be just interested in the topic?" asks Heeren. He says the session will start at 7:30 Thursday night at the Women's Institute Hall on Kalamalka Road. The session is in response to the petition by the Greater Vernon Governance Society.
