Talk Of Council Races Percolating

Who's running -- and who's not -- for local councils, school boards and regional districts this fall? That talk is starting to heat up around Vernon and other areas with municipal elections in BC set for November 15. Former city councillor and businessman Klaus Tribes has called a news conference for Wednesday afternoon for some sort of political announcement. Current Vernon mayor Rob Sawatzky has said he will announce if he will run again by early summer. Two term Vernon councillor Bob Spiers is also still thinking it over. "I haven't decided. I'm like Sawatzky. I'll wait until after the summer break," Spiers tells Kiss FM. Terms increase from three to four years, for elected reps starting this fall. First term Vernon councillor Catherine Lord is also undecided. "I'm going to wait until about June just to make sure my family is okay with it," says Lord. In 2011, three people ran for Vernon mayor, and 15 ran for council.
