Safety Upgrades for New Tim's

Vernon's Mayor says he's met with the owner of the Tim Horton's planned across from Beairsto School. Akbal Mund says they've gone over the concerns raised by the parents and agree the number one priority is the safety and well being of the children. He says a full controlled light will be put in at the corner of 27th and 35th, the crosswalks will be upgraded and parking on 35th will be eliminated during drop off and pick up times. He says it is already the busiest school in the city, "The traffic congestion there already. The school attracts children from all over Vernon, Coldstream, and Areas B and C. The school has the largest enrolment in Vernon, by far, and most of the children are driven to the school. This will never change. There used to be a very busy car lot in operation there for many decades, so this site is not new to having a business on it." Mund says this problem is not isolated to one school in our district. BX, where Mund's children attend, has safety concerns as well, and it does not have any controlled pedestrian light, and no sidewalks for the children period. The Mayor says the city has been working with the developer to make sure all safety concerns are being addressed during construction.
