Amphitheatre Site Plans Stopped

The BC government has put a halt to plans to use a site by Okanagan College in Coldstream for an outdoor amphitheatre.Vernon Monashee MLA Eric Foster says the decision was based on the opposition to using that site."I guess the final decision was made by me, through the ministry (of Advanced Education), because it is on ministry land, but the community certainly wasn't in support of this in any way, and it's unfortunate. I think it would be an asset to the community, but it's a great idea in the wrong place," Foster tells Kiss FM. The Okanagan Summer Festival Society had been leading the planning to use the gully south of the college for the 5,500 seat facility which would have hosted concerts and other events in the summer months. However, the proposal was met with opposition from Coldstream residents -- including a one thousand name petition -- over concerns like noise, traffic and environmental damage to that site. Foster says they will work with the society to try and find another location.

Vernon Monashee MLA Eric Foster appears to have single-handedly stopped a proposed  amphitheatre project from proceeding at Okanagan College's Vernon campus. "MLA Foster nixes amphitheatre proposal at Okanagan College," stated a headline on a Liberal caucus press release. “It simply had no community support whatsoever,” Foster said. “I didn't get a single email or phone call in support of it.”
