The head of the B.C. Lottery Corp. could walk away with more than $400,000 in severance after he was fired Friday -- three days after the release of a scathing report found the corporation didn't do enough to prevent dishonest retailers from stealing customers' winning tickets. Solicitor-General John Les said he supported the decision by BCLC's board to fire chief executive officer Vic Poleschuk.
Fraser said the board has not decided what, if any, severance Poleschuk will receive. However, under his contract with BCLC, Poleschuk is entitled to 18 months' salary if he's fired without cause. Poleschuk's base salary is about $275,000 but, after performance bonuses and unused vacation time, he earned a total of $442,667 last year. Poleschuk has been with BCLC since its founding in 1985 and been its CEO since 1999.
