A former senior administrator in Coldstream hasn’t wasted any time in finding a new job. Darwyn Kutney started Monday as the pubic works superintendent for the City of Enderby. “The people here are fantastic. Enderby is a wonderful community,” he said. Kutney was Coldstream’s director of operational services for 11 years. But he was placed on administrative leave in early March and was dismissed by council March 16. At the time, Coldstream Mayor Gary Corner stated, “We’ve decided the position is more demanding now and we’re looking at the engineering side of things.” Sue Phillips, Enderby mayor, is confident Kutney will meet the long-term needs of her community.
“He has subdivision experience and I am looking forward to his expertise,” she said. After being in one community for so long, Kutney admits that his job in Enderby is providing some challenges. “I have to learn the staff, the streets and the issues. It will take a few days to get up to speed,” he said. Kutney replaces Alf Soros, who left Enderby for a new job in Kelowna. A settlement agreement has been reached between Coldstream and Kutney but details are not available at this time. In terms of its own vacancy, Coldstream is looking for a new director of operational services. “Currently we have a temp in and we should be posting for a new employee within the next couple of weeks,” said Wendy Kay, Coldstream’s chief administrative officer.
