Casino Update

Starlee Speers, Standard Radio News

The expansion and relocation of the casino in Vernon is a done deal according to one Councillor.Pat Cochrane says despite the scheduled public input session council doesn't really have a say in it and he fails to see the point .Cochrane says while he doesn't have a problem with gambling the city should look at where they put the money they receive from it. He says more should go to social services instead of infrastructure. Lake City Casino is hoping to relocate to a new building almost three times the size with almost double the slot machines. The public input session on the matter is set for November 13th.

The public will get a chance to comment on a proposal to relocate Vernon's main gambling outlet.Lake City Casino wants to move to a larger facility on Anderson Way, and increase its slot machines to 400 from the current 210.City council will hold a public input meeting November 13-th at City Hall.Mayor Wayne Lippert says the company still has to get development approval, even though its already done some pre-load work on the new site.'Yes, but they're no different then...it doesn't matter what building that was going to go there. Pre-loading of the site is first stage for whatever. I could be a casino it could be a gas station it could be a doctor's office.'Councillor Juliette Cunningham is concerned the city is just going through the motions, adding it's unlikely the application will be turned down. She thinks public input should have been received far earlier in the process.
