Manitoba. Mounties to receive lower-voltage Tasers

Canwest News Service
Mounties in Manitoba will soon be receiving new Tasers that will record the duration of the shocks that officers are delivering to suspects. RCMP officers will get the X26 model Taser this spring as their old ones near the end of their usable life. The new model is more efficient and has "even greater stopping capability," according to its manufacturer, despite putting out a lower voltage level when fired. Steve Tuttle, a spokesman for the Arizona-based Taser International, said the X26 is more efficient in the way it uses electric current compared to the older M26 the Mounties have been using. The new model will store the time, date, unit temperature and burst duration of the electric shock delivered.
