Roundabout proceeds despite petition

by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM

Efforts to stop construction of a roundabout in Vernon's East Hill, have failed. A 296-name petition was given to city council last month, calling for a halt to the traffic circle at 32nd Avenue and Pleasant Valley Road. Mayor Wayne Lippert says the request came too late for reconsideration. "Once council has made a decision, if it goes 30 days after that decision, or if there's been work already started, like money spent, not necessarily on the ground, but as far as staff work, the decision is final, and it cannot be, or will not be, changed." Lippert says there may be some design changes to address the concerns raised by Dr Karl Denk and some of his dental patients, with Denk's building located near the site. Lippert says, "Staff have been looking at a redesign on that somewhat, to address the concerns, not only of Dr Denk, but the other residents, at that intersection." Work is expected to start this fall.
