The Liberal Candidate for the Okanagan-Shuswap says the perception she was just given the candidacy isn't accurate. Janna Francis says she was disappointed nobody else ran against her for the nomination. She says the party overturned the decision to discourage men from seeking the nomination. Celista Farmer Jake Ootes issued a news release in August saying he had been advised not to bother submitting papers for the nomination as the party wanted a female candidate. The Liberal Campaign Co-chair confirmed the phone call saying the party had to take extra steps to ensure 30 percent of their candidates were female. Janna Francis says Ootes was contacted about that decision being overturned but he decided not to submit his nomination papers.Francis says the perception that that candidacy was just handed to her is false.

There's no doubt FRANCIS was hand picked and that will be reflected at the polls..Good bye Janna.
I know personally that the Liberal Riding Association fought hard to ensure the candidate selection meeting was fair. Janna Francis refused to even put her name in until we were assured there would be no prohibition of anyone. If there was to be a gender bias then Local Liberals would of stayed out of this election in protest.
We don't understand why Mr. Ootes has said what he has said or what his perception are. We made it crystal clear we want a fair and open process and we got it!

I don't know Ms FRANCIS,and she's no doubt very capable. However, in politics, optics become reality. And the unfortunate optics surrounding this situation are that the executives within the Liberal Party of Canada hand picked the candidate similar to that which was done in the last election in Northern Saskatchewan. The results speak for themselves in that particular riding.
It's unfortunate, but Ms FRANCIS will no doubt be tagged with her selection being undemocratic.
And to "VOTE GREEN"..that makes about as much sense as voting for Larry, Curly and Moe (aka Coldstream Rate Payers) in the upcoming Mun election..It's a wasted vote..The Green party will never form the government and they can promise whatever they want, because they will never have to deliver(Something like the Rate Payers)

Im so happy to see that the only intelligent people in Vernon and Coldstream are those who belong to the Tax payers Association.
It's too bad that there's only about 50,000 stupid people and we'll be rescued by the few intelligent ones.
Hope those candidates for the Rate Payers tell the rest of us what to do on voting day.

Unfortunately, the excerise of having members of the Coldstream Rate Payers has failed miserably..Just look at the existing council for Coldstream. I guess that just goes to demonstrate what a group of "I want to be actors" and "has been politicians" can do when in a position of authority.
No thank you..we need people who don't have a personal agenda and have a vision of how to correct our economic situation, affordable housing, infastructure issues. Correct me if Im wrong, but no one has ever heard the Rate Payers talking about solutions, but that's right..they "debate" the issues.

Well Little Miss Red Riding Hood (RH) and the Larry, Curly and Moe..the Coldstream Rate Payers need to understand that there are "several" tax payers that are sick and tired of the complaining and there's absolutely no attempt to engage solutions. If you want any credibility at all.."shut up and truly listen"..
Whether the Rate Payers like it or not..you're looked upon by a very large group of tax payers as a bunch of "has beens" trying to get a little attention in the twilight of your lives..It's called "Fifteen minutes of fame".
If you really try to listen (without arrogance) to the tax payers versus adopting your own small minded agenda, then and only then you may elect another rate payer to council.
News Flash!!...Here's an earth shattering thought..try to solicit dynamic community leaders to get involved in your movement...and no, not like Mr KISS who's before date has long pasted.
Otherwise, there are "several" very well educated tax payers like myself that will spend a great deal of money to ensure we don't have to endure another three years of a screwed up council. And oh by the way..the fact is well known that there were three members of the Coldstream Rate Payers elected to the current council. And it's also known that they have also been responsible for the mess our community now find itself.

The three members on council who were members of the Rate Payers will no doubt have to answer why they were also responsible for screwing our community up.
