Starlee Speers - Vernon 105.7 SUNFM:
Vernon City staffers made a case for the roundabout at 32nd Avenue and P.V road that council apparently couldn't refuse on Monday. Staff presented data showing a roundabout would reduce accidents by 77 percent at the intersection compared to the 30 to 45 percent reduction of a traffic signal. Councillor Shawn Lee says he voted in favour of going ahead with the roundabout because the information presented was factual, organized and he could picture one at the location.Lee says he was undecided before the meeting but the information presented by city staff convinced him to vote in favour.Councillor Patrick Nicol says the roundabout is an appalling waste of money. Nicol says council's approval of the roundabout is a demonstration of its inability to listen to residents. He and the mayor were the only two to opposed the motion.
