Starlee Speers - Vernon 105.7 SUNFM:
There's still no firm decision regarding the restructuring of Vernon's fire services. Mayor Wayne Lippert says while the fire chiefs business plan calls for the same level of rescue services for Okanagan Landing as the rest of the city, he adds that may not be necessary. Lippert says the intent has always been to ensure the Okanagan Landing has the same level of service as the rest of the city. Former Deputy Chief, and Councillor Jack Gilroy says it's up to Okanagan Landing residents to decide what kind of fire rescue service they want, but for every five minutes a fire doubles.
Council did authorize the withdrawal of Vernon Fire Rescue services fire dispatch from the regional district. However, four remaining resolutions including setting quicker response time targets were deferred, A public input meeting on the fire services restructuring issue will be held sometime in April.
