As the dispute simmers between the Okanagan Indian Band and Tolko over logging at Browns Creek, Okanagan-Shuswap M-P Colin Mayes has expressed some frustration in his efforts to work with five aboriginal bands in his riding. He says attempts to communicate with the bands have not been successful. Mayes says he's making new efforts to understand native issues that are outstanding. Mayes has hired a consultant to help increase his knowledge of the treaty process and outstanding aboriginal claims in his riding. Mayes says he wants to be informed and has tried to communicate with all five bands in his riding.Okanagan Indian Band chief Fabian Alexis has accused Ottawa of indifference as it fights Tolko's efforts to go ahead with logging in the Browns Creek Watershed.
