Snowplows have been a rare sight around Vernon this winter, which is helping the city's bottom line. Public works manager James Rice says crews have been called out six times so far this year to clear snow or ice. He says that's consumed just ten percent of this year's $575,000 budget, far less than expected. Last year, it was just the opposite as it was a snowier than normal winter, and city costs went over budget by 40 percent.

Vernon city council takes its show on the road for two public meetings this week. Mayor Wayne Lippert says tonight they'll be at Paddlewheel Park in Okanagan Landing at 7, seeking input on the proposed two percent budget increase, and other city projects. "We've heard from Landing residents quite clearly a few different times that they feel that they haven't been heard, not as much in the past year as in year's past, but we want everyone to be involved." The second input meeting will be Tuesday night at 7 at the Schubert Centre. Lippert says input is sought on the budget and other projects. "We're looking at getting input on capital projects, for works that have been done and that we're planning on doing.
