The city of Vernon will continue its partnership with a well respected social agency, after ironing out one concern. Council has approved a five year contract renewal with the Social Planning Council (SPC), which includes funding of $60,000 a year, ten thousand more than before. There had been concerns about the group's request for office space at City Hall, but the SPC has since worked out a deal to use another site. The Planning Council ----under executive director Annette Sharkey---- has played a key role in projects like the new Gateway homeless shelter and affordable housing like Under One Roof, over the last few years. Councillor Bob Spiers was the lone council member to vote against the agreement but he stressed it was because he felt a five year term was too long, and he would have preferred three. Spiers says he fully supports the efforts of the SPC.
