Police Shut Lid on Murder Info

Any further details about a Vernon murder case will have to come out in court and won't be released by police. The RCMP's Gord Molendyk reiterated that to media after questions about how 32 year old Lumby resident Nathan Mayrhofer died. "There won't be any further details released in relation to that. The individual (suspect) has gone in for a psych assessment.Officers continue to investigate that file and will work on it for some time period yet." Mayrhofer's body was found dismembered in an apartment August 5th, and 37 year old Kenneth Barter is accused of his secnd degree murder. Kenneth Barter (Kiss FM)Barter (pictured) was an acquaintance of the victim, and at his first court appearance the Crown stated he suffers from a mental disorder. Molendyk says it's a sad case for the families of the victim, and the suspect. "One lost a loved one, while the other family has to deal with the details of the case around the homicide, so I think we'll have two families that will be gravely affected for many years to come." Molendyk says Mayrhofer's family is handling it reasonably well under the circumstances. Barter, who had no previous criminal record, returns to court September 9th after a 30 day remand for a psychiatric assessment.
