Superintendent on Drugs Foot Patrols Gather Intel

Vernon's top cop says the new RCMP foot patrols around the city's downtown core have already produced information to help in the fight against illegal drugs. However Superintendent Reg Burgess admits there's a long way to go. Patrols by the Community Policing unit this summer picked up almost 300 crack cocaine bags and 42 crack pipes. Burgess said it was proof of what police already know, ``that drugs are still very much a problem in the downtown core.'' Burgess says there are daily efforts by the RCMP to combat the drug problem. He says the information gathered by officers on foot patrols has been passed on to the RCMP drug unit and plainclothes police
