A police ident official videos the scene at the Villacare Apartments, site of Vernon's first homicide probe of 2010 (P.McIntyre)Police now say it will likely be Monday before anything more is released about a homicide in Vernon. Investigators have been combing through a second floor apartment at the Villacare complex on 33rd Avenue across from City Hall since last night when they were called to a possible homicide. A 31 year old man who lived at the residence was taken into custody, but he has not been charged yet. Apartment manager Norm Leflour is a little frustrated at the lack of information police gave him and the residents. "They don't know anything (residents)..They keep asking me what's going on and I don't know. They won't give me any information. I was just told they were investigating a homicide but I don't know who is it." Leflour actually found out from the media what took place. "I've been asked if I heard anything (noises, altercations) the last few days--absolutely nothing, no noise no nothing. It's a quiet building with mostly seniors in here so it's quite surprising." RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says its a complex case so Monday will likely be when more details are released. Police have not said if the victim was male or female, and if a weapon was used. It's the first homicide investigation in Vernon this year.

Vernon RCMP are working on getting a 31-year-old homicide suspect in front of a Justice of the Peace so they can hold the man over the weekend before he appears in court next week to face charges. Police spokesperson Gord Molendyk says officers from the South East District as well as members of the Vernon detachment continue to search for evidence at the suspect's apartment in the 29-hundred block of 33rd Avenue. Police have refused to release details of the victim. They state that due to the complexity of the case, it will likely be Monday before any further information is released. This is Vernon's first homicide of the year. The incident took place on Thursday evening at the Villa Care Apartments in the downtown, across the street from the Vernon police department. The manager of the building says no one in the small apartment block appears to have heard anything suspicious.
