Museum Seeks New Facility; British History

Vernon MuseumThe Greater Vernon Museum is looking to the future, and wanting to add to its space.  Curator Ron Candy is promoting a plan for a new facility somewhere in the downtown core, or undertake a major renovation of its existing facility.  Candy told the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee he's seeking a 2 percent budget increase from NORD to cover inflation, plus another $8,000 for two part time positions.  The museum currently gets a $165,000 grant from NORD.  Meantime, a part of British history somehow ended up in the Vernon Museum.  Candy says he recently gave English researchers a medieval document dating back to the 1300's which described a well known British manor house.  "Just like some documents are significant to Canadian, Vernon or BC history, this has an extreme significance to them, so they were very thrilled to gt it." Candy says the document was turned into them as part of a collection a few years ago.  He doesn't know how it got to Vernon but speculates it may have been brought back as a souvenir by a war veteran.
