Politician Salaries

Vernon's mayor had the highest expenses of North Okanagan politicians in 2010.  Wayne Lippert  submitted bills of 10-thousand-five hundred dollars, which was double his tab from the year before.  He says it was for meetings like UBCM, and to talk with government officials.  "I probably made more trips to Victoria to talk with government and staff, probably more this year than in year's past. That's probably where the bulk of is."  Lippert was paid 78-thousand dollars for his duties with the city and NORD last year, tops among local elected reps.  63 thousand was for mayor, plus another 15 thousand as a NORD director.  "This job probably ends up costing money in the long run. You don't do it for the money." NORD chairman Herman Halvorson was next at 41-thousand remuneration, plus 9-thousand expenses.  Jack Gilroy was the next highest paid Vernon council member, with remuneration of 23-thousand dollars, plus another 32-hundred in expenses.  The total cost for the 16 politicians in Greater Vernon was 437-thousand dollars, up four thousand from 2009.
