Two Okanagan roads have made a list of the province's worst. Silver Star Road up from Vernon is ranked as BC's fifth worst road, then number 18 is Westside Road heading north from West Kelowna. A man died last month when his car plunged off Westside Road and sunk into the lake.
"It's a very treacherous, hazardous road. We're very concerned about a road like that which sometimes experiences heavy truck traffic, and they put extra stress on a road that's not built for that. But it's a narrow, windy road without guard-rails in many places and yes, truly a hazard," says West Kelowna Mayor Doug Findlater. BCAA says they've made the list not to shame communities, but to help lobby the province for upgrades. "It's great to see drivers that feel passionately about these roads that are in need of repairs, bringing them to our attention so we can bring them to the attention of the municipalities and the Ministry [of Transportation]," says BCAA's Trace Acres.
