The 2011 Dancing with the Vernon Stars has waltzed its way to another successful event. The dancing finals featuring ten local couples had 500 people on hand at the Vernon Rec Centre Friday night. The Salvation Army's David MacBain and his wife Carole won the
couple's amateur competition, while Klaus Tribes of KT's Restaurant took
the pro-am event, and was also named the community favorite with his
Viennese Waltz to the Mary Poppins chimney sweep scene. The event was a fundraiser for the North Okanagan Hospice Society, and the totals raised are still being tabulated. Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk raised a little extra for the
charity by wearing a red, star-covered jacket for the RCMP's Monday
morning media update. Someone at the event said they would donate $100 if he did that. It's the same jacket Molendyk donned for his dance with wife Christine on Friday. There were wise cracks Monday that it looked like something Don Cherry, or a magician, would wear.
