It looks like taxpayers will not have to shell out extra money for potential cost overruns on the new Vernon library. The project manager for the 12.6 million dollar structure on 30th Avenue even hints at some possible savings. John Hiebert tells Kiss FM, "We're still right on budget. We don't
believe there's any risk at this juncture of going over that, and the
savings, once they've been confirmed, will be announced by the client." Hiebert, who works for Task Management, will also leave it up to the
owner, the Okanagan Regional Library, to announce the opening date. All he will say is that the construction will be done in April or May. "We are still being a little ambivalent about that because we've got
to work with the owner in terms of their own move in, in terms
of transfer of books from the old library to the new one." He says up to 50 trades people are still working on the inside and outside of the building. The two story facility has been under construction since the fall of
2010, and will be more than double the size of the current library.
