Regional politicians are hoping to secure senior government funding for two Greater Vernon water projects. The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee will apply for Canada BC Gas Tax funds for stage two of the Duteau Creek Treatment Plant, and equipment to remotely read agricultural water meters. Directors Gyula Kiss and Bob Spiers were opposed to tying the application to the Duteau project, when the Mission Hill Treatment Plant may be more of a priority. Spiers tells Kiss FM that could be a problem down the line. "I hope that if we get the grant we can transfer it to the other plant, but my knowledge of when you apply for grants, you apply for specific projects, you get money for specific projects, and you've got to use that money for the specific projects" Phase two of the Duteau Water Treatment project is to add a 21.8 million dollar filtration system to satisfy demands from Interior Health. The remote read agricultural meter upgrade would cost $250,000. Third on the priority list is a $4.4 million project to raise the Aberdeen Lake dam by 4 meters to increase water storage for the Duteau Creek system.
