Bear Banger May Have Started Grass Fire - Cause will be listed as undetermined
Fire Investigators have their suspicions about what caused a grass fire in Okanagan Landing yesterday afternoon, but they can't prove it. Someone trying to chase away wildlife may have started yesterday's grass fire that came close to a home. Deputy Chief Jack Blair says they think it was from a bear banger, but they can't find the cartridge, and no one has come forward to say they were using the device. Neighbours told investigators they've heard a number of load bangs recently and there are complaints of deer in the area. Blair says it is one more thing to be concerned about with the dry conditions because the instructions warn people not to use in tall, dry grass as they may cause a fire.
